The Self-esteem Conundrum


We all know that healthy self-esteem is linked to a child’s healthy development, well-being and achievement – but have we lost sight of how we as a community should achieve this?  Is self-esteem a Pollyanna-ish, feel-good state where every child is special and every child is a winner? In an effort for kids to feel good about themselves have we made life too easy for them; have we lost sight that self-esteem and self-confidence are linked to their capacity to achieve and overcome obstacles.
