Teaching children about time and place


Recently I saw three kids wrestling with each other in supermarket queue while their parents simply watched on. I couldn’t help thinking of what my mum used to say when I misbehaved in public - “There’s a time and place for everything Michael, and this is not the time and place to behave like that!” Mum’s message applied in the supermarket. It’s reasonable that these children wait with their mother in a queue for a few minutes without disturbing others. But getting kids to cooperate in public can be hard work. It helps to do some groundwork first. Time and place is a fantastic socialisation lesson for children of any age or era to absorb.
